HBL Microfinance Bank Appoints Maya Inayat Ismail as Chairperson of the Board

Islamabad, Pakistan – HBL Microfinance Bank (HBL MfB) has announced the appointment of Maya Inayat Ismail as the new Chairperson of its Board of Directors, succeeding Rayomond H. Kotwal.

Maya Inayat Ismail played a key role in the establishment of HBL MfB’s predecessor organization, the First MicroFinance Bank (FMFB), Pakistan’s first microfinance institution. She has been a member of HBL MfB’s Board since 2016 and has chaired the Financial Inclusion and Social Commitment (FISC) Committee, reflecting her deep commitment to financial inclusion. With over 25 years of experience in the financial sector, she has specialized in strategic partnerships, financial services, and grassroots development.

Outgoing Chairman Rayomond H. Kotwal expressed his pride in the Bank’s achievements and optimism for its future under Ismail’s leadership. “It has been an honor to serve as the Chairman of HBL Microfinance Bank. I am proud of what we have achieved in driving financial inclusion across Pakistan. I am confident that Maya Inayat Ismail’s appointment will usher in a new era of innovation for the Bank, and I look forward to seeing it flourish under her guidance.”

Sultan Ali Allana, Chairman of HBL, also welcomed Ismail’s appointment, highlighting her expertise and dedication to financial inclusion. “Maya Inayat Ismail’s leadership will further enhance HBL Microfinance Bank’s mission to serve underserved communities in Pakistan. Her appointment marks a historic milestone as she becomes the first woman to chair an Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED) institution, reinforcing our commitment to breaking barriers in leadership.
