In a proactive move to combat the spread of false information, ABS & Co, a prominent law firm in Pakistan, has announced the issuance of ‘instant legal notices’ against individuals responsible for disseminating misleading news concerning M/s Telenor Microfinance Bank Limited, commonly known as Telenor Bank or Easypaisa.

The directive, directed at individuals involved in the initiation and dissemination of deceptive information, comes amidst a surge in electronic media posts and news containing fake claims against Telenor Bank/Easypaisa, aimed at damaging its business integrity.

According to the legal notice issued by ABS & Co, certain individuals have been found engaged in electronic forgery and fraud, including the illegal counterfeiting of trademarks and logos associated with Telenor Bank/Easypaisa. These acts, as per the notice, are actionable under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, Pakistan Penal Code, 1860, and Defamation Ordinance, 2002.

The law firm has emphasized that Telenor Bank/Easypaisa reserves the right to pursue both civil and criminal actions against the perpetrators, including investigations by relevant authorities such as the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

Individuals involved in spreading false information have been urged to immediately cease their unlawful activities. Failure to comply with the legal notice will result in strict legal action initiated by Telenor Bank/Easypaisa, encompassing both civil and criminal proceedings before a court of law.

This decisive action by ABS & Co underscores Telenor Bank/Easypaisa’s commitment to safeguarding its business integrity and ensuring the welfare of its customers amidst a barrage of false claims circulating on social media platforms.

This development follows closely on the heels of Easypaisa’s statement issued approximately a month ago, in response to rumors circulating following the sale of Telenor Pakistan to PTCL. The bank had reassured its customers to disregard unsubstantiated rumors and affirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of service and security, emphasizing its dedication to fostering financial inclusion in Pakistan’s digital landscape.
