Telenor–Ufone Merger Reaches Final Stage, Completion Expected in Early December

Islamabad: The long-awaited merger between Telenor Pakistan and Ufone has moved into its final stage and is expected to be formally completed in the first week of December, according to official sources.

After nearly a year of deliberations, regulatory processes, and operational assessments, all major milestones have now been cleared, paving the way for final approvals.

The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has already issued its order on the merger, enabling the transition to subsequent regulatory steps. The case is currently under review by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), which is expected to issue its decision following the completion of its due diligence.

Once PTA approval is secured, the merger will move to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) for financial clearance, and subsequently to the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) for corporate and structural approval.

Officials familiar with the matter noted that the completion of this high-value merger is expected to significantly reshape Pakistan’s telecom sector, bringing two major operators under a unified structure and potentially altering the competitive dynamics of the industry.
