KARACHI: Citi announced its role as Joint Sustainability Coordinator in supporting the Government of Pakistan on the launch of its Sovereign Sustainable Finance Framework, a landmark initiative designed to advance the country’s sustainability agenda and mobilize capital for impactful green and social projects.
The Framework marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s journey towards a more sustainable and inclusive future. It establishes a comprehensive and transparent structure for the issuance of sustainable financing instruments including green bonds and social capital market issuances that will enable the government to support funding of projects with measurable environmental and social benefits.
Developed in collaboration with Citi, the framework provides clear and credible guidelines for the identification, selection, management, and reporting of eligible projects. This approach ensures transparency, accountability, and alignment with international best practices, while enhancing investor confidence and unlocking new avenues for sustainable financing.
Importantly, the framework lays groundwork for future sustainable capital market issuances supporting Pakistan’s ambition to expand its participation in the global sustainable finance market and create a robust domestic ecosystem for sustainable investments.
