Neem x EFU Life: Powering the future of insurance with embedded payments

Neem is excited to announce a strategic partnership with EFU Life, one of Pakistan’s leading insurers serving over 10 million customers. This collaboration marks Neem’s entry into the insurance sector. The objective is to digitise the entire insurance value chain—from premium collections to claims disbursements, powered by Neem’s financial infrastructure.

The integration of Neem’s payment platform has helped us reimagine how premiums are collected, making the process faster, more secure, and customer-friendly. By digitising this critical touchpoint, we’re improving efficiency for our teams and convenience for our policyholders, while laying the foundation for a more inclusive insurance experience. –  said Azeem Pirani, Chief Operations Officer at EFU Life commented “

In addition to digitising insurance payments, Neem and EFU Life are working to make access to insurance products more seamless. EFU Life’s offerings will soon be integrated into  Neem Paymenow, Neem’s Shariah-compliant earned wage access platform. This will empower employees to access and pay for Islamic insurance products, like life, health, and accident coverage, directly within the platform where they receive their salaries, making responsible financial planning much easier.

By integrating with Neem Paymenow, we’re extending the reach of Takaful protection to where it matters most people’s everyday financial lives. This collaboration enables us to offer convenient, Shariah-compliant solutions that empower salaried individuals to protect themselves and their families without added financial or administrative burden. said Ms. Nilofer Sohail, GM & Head – Channel Strategy & Growth Segments, EFU Life.

Why insurance, and why now?

Despite the growing need for financial protection in Pakistan, the insurance sector remains underdeveloped, with penetration still below 1% of GDP—far behind regional standards. One of the key barriers is outdated, cash-heavy processes, creating friction for both insurers and customers. Digital payments, whether for premiums or claims, remain a major pain point, preventing a smooth experience.

Our solution: A digital payments layer built for insurance

Together with EFU Life, Neem is solving these challenges by directly embedding a robust digital payment and wallet infrastructure into the insurance journey.

With EFU Life, we’re bringing embedded finance into one of the most critical sectors in Pakistan. We aim to digitise every step — from how customers pay, to how insurers disburse — making insurance more accessible, transparent, and efficient for both people and businesses across Pakistan,” said  Nadeem Shaikh, co-founder at Neem.

Integrating digital payments can be complex, especially when dealing with compliance, multiple providers, and high costs. That’s why Neem’s platform is designed to be plug-and-play, low-code, and scalable, helping institutions go live quickly. EFU Life integrated Neem’s Payment Button in just days, proving that even large, established players can digitise payments without disrupting core systems.

What EFU Life gets with the Neem’s Payment Button

  • Digital payments for policyholders: Customers can pay digitally via cards, wallets, bank transfers, and 1Bill, making insurance more convenient and accessible.
  • Faster reconciliation: Payments are auto-matched to policy numbers, reducing manual errors and delays, which speeds up reconciliation and minimises manual effort.
  • Cash payments via 1Bill: Customers can pay premiums at 1Bill-supported retail outlets or banks, bridging urban and rural access.
  • Smart Payment Links for agents: Soon, EFU agents will be able to generate and send secure Payment Links to collect payments from customers, maintaining personal interaction while going digital.
  • Real-time insights: EFU Life’s team gains access to Neem’s comprehensive business portal, offering key insights.

Building a wallet-powered insurance ecosystem

As part of a broader effort to unify the insurance journey into a seamless ecosystem, Neem is helping EFU Life build a white-labeled wallet system. It will allow customers to securely store funds, top up through various methods, and use those funds for premium payments, policy purchases, and claims disbursements. Over time, this solution will also incorporate loyalty features to drive deeper engagement and enhance customer retention.

Embedded insurance products in Neem Paymenow

Expanding its commitment to financial wellness, Neem will also be integrating EFU Life’s insurance products into its Shariah-compliant Earned Wage Access (EWA) platform, Neem Paymenow. This will allow employees to seamlessly sign up for Islamic insurance policies, such as life, health, and accidental, at the very point they access their salaries, without additional paperwork or financial strain. For employers, it enhances the employee benefits package, promoting retention and satisfaction.
